Finance and Accounting Programs at the University of Toledo

The accounting and finance programs available at the University of Toledo prepare students for working in the financial sector. In the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program, students can choose an emphasis in finance. They’ll look at financial markets, the factors that can affect those markets, the best ways of investing funds and raising capital. Students have access to one of the only 30 university trading rooms in the country, which offers live updates on the stock markets. They can also take Student Managed Portfolio. This class allows majors to manage the $2 million fund that the university uses to raise money for improvements every year.
BBA students can also choose an emphasis in accounting. This is one of the only accredited undergrad accounting programs in Ohio. The university has a 93% placement rate among graduates who work in the accounting field and a high pass rate among those who took the Ohio CPA exam. Students can do internships with companies in Ohio and other states and get paid for their work while they also earn course credit. The University of Toledo also offers workshops that teach students how to use accounting software and prep programs for the CPA exam.
Student organizations such as the Financial Management Association help students learn outside of the classroom. Not only can they attend events with guest speakers and lecturers, but they can go on field trips and hear about internship opportunities at meetings. Beta Alpha Psi inducts new members each year based on how well students perform in their classes. Their professors can nominate them for one of the open spots. The University of Toledo also has on-site tutoring available for students who need extra help. They can book a session at one of the university’s labs to use the same software they’ll use on tests and projects.
Also available is a Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) that helps students complete the minimum number of credits required to take the Ohio CPA exam. The 30 credit hour program includes a nine-hour core and 21 credits of electives. Students need to pick from general electives and diversified electives that help them learn about different accounting topics. Corporate Finance, Information Technology and e-Business, Business Valuation, Taxation of Business Entities and Fraud and Forensic Accounting are all electives that they can take. The accounting core includes External Financial Reporting, Financial Contemporary Problems, and Research in Accounting and Taxation.

University of Toledo Accreditation Details
All the finance and accounting programs at UT have accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This accreditation shows students that they’ll get the training and skills needed to work in the finance industry. The regional accreditation held by UT comes from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Thousands of students attending the university every year use this accreditation to get financial aid with help from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
University of Toledo Application Requirements
UT is one of the most welcoming colleges in Ohio with an acceptance rate of 93%. The Ohio college prep curriculum includes four units of math and English courses and three units of natural and social science classes. Students need to provide transcripts that show they took all those courses when they apply. A grade point average of 2.0 and a score of 16 on the ACT or 880 on the SAT guarantees acceptance. Guaranteed acceptance also goes to students with a GPA of 2.5 and a score of 15/830 on the ACT/SAT. They can submit their scores and high school transcripts to UT after using the Common Application.
The UT MSA program accepts new students who have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher or the same GPA in an accounting major. Students with a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT and those who received a passing score on the CPA or a similar exam in another state will also receive acceptance from the university. UToldedo asks students to apply online and pay their application fees through the same system. They will need to submit their GMAT scores and transcripts to the university and send in their resumes. UT asks students to complete an assistantship application if they want to apply for one of those positions too.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Several graduate students receive assistantships from UToledo every year. They need to apply online for one of the jobs. Those selected receive tuition assistance and a living wage stipend. Graduate students can also use the FAFSA if they want to get any federal loans. Those loans help them pay their annual expenses, including the $12,342.72 in tuition and fees that they pay as an Ohio resident. Nonresident graduate students pay $12,934.80 each semester. UT also charges residents and nonresidents $636.12 to $1,077.90 per credit hour if they take classes part-time.
Finance and accounting undergrads pay $11,492 each semester for full-time enrollment as an Ohio resident or $16,172 as a nonresident. UT offers scholarships for both types of students that include merit scholarships. Residents need a minimum GPA of 2.75 and a score of 20/1120 on the ACT/SAT to get a $1,000 scholarship. With higher scores and grades, they can qualify for a scholarship of $6,000 a year. Nonresidents can qualify for merit scholarships of $9,500 to $14,500 a year too. Accounting and finance majors at the University of Toledo can get grants, work-study, and loans too.
