At Alfred Lerner Hall, the College of Business & Economics led by Dr. Bruce Weber grants the 123-credit Accounting (B.S.) for University of Delaware undergrads to engage in CMA or CPA certification prep with Big Four internships, Alpha Kappa Psi membership, and an optional China Semester. Chaired by Dr. Laura Field, the Finance (B.S.) builds a 123-credit, AACSB-accredited program for students to utilize the 2,200-square-foot Geltzeiler Trading Center, join Investment Club, and take the CFA Institute exam. The Financial Planning & Wealth Management (B.S.) follows 123-credit, CFP-aligned curriculum directed by Dr. Charles Elson for 100 percent placement at Bank of America, Raymond James, Concord Financial, Ameriprise, Wells Fargo, and others.
Online via Canvas, the Lerner MBA ranked 26th by the U.S. News & World Report has a Finance Concentration to specialize the 44-credit, 16-month plan with accelerated, seven-week Web courses like Portfolio Management and Investment Analysis costing $35,728 total. Headed by Dr. John Wragge, the 2005 Lester Chadwick Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, the 30-credit Accounting (M.S.) reports a 60.6 percent first-time CPA pass rate after tracks in Analytics, Controllership, Financial Management, or Management Information Systems. The Financial Services Analytics (Ph.D.) shapes a scholarly 54-credit Newark program under Dr. Bintong Chen for data-driven dissertation work in the Harker Interdisciplinary Lab or JPMorgan Chase Innovation Center.
About the University of Delaware
The University of Delaware originated in 1743 when Presbyterian Synod of Philadelphia leader Rev. Francis Alison opened the Free School at his New London estate. In 1781, it was formally chartered as the Academy of Newark by the Delaware General Assembly. On February 5, 1833, it became Newark College to deliver post-secondary liberal arts degrees. One decade later, another name change to Delaware College was adopted. Briefly closed from 1859 to 1869, it reopened thanks to Congress’ Morrill Land-Grant Act in 1870. In 1917, it opened a Women’s College for an inaugural class of 58. By 1945, the University of Delaware was born with coeducational status. In 1976, Delaware became the ninth sea-grant institution with a Graduate College of Marine Studies. In 2009, UD added a former 272-acre Chrysler plant to its Newark, Dover, Wilmington, Lewes, and Georgetown campuses.

University of Delaware Accreditation Details
On November 17, 2016, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accepted the Fifth-Year Periodic Review Report from the University of Delaware to keep Level VI accreditation valid through 2020-21 under its 28th president, Dr. Dennis Assanis, who earned the ASEE Ralph Coats Roe Award and Meritorious Service Award. Located 47 miles up Interstate 95 in Center City, Philadelphia, this superb six-state Mid-Atlantic Coast Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to check UD’s 135 baccalaureate, 142 master’s, 67 doctoral, and 28 certificate offerings. Particularly, the Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics was reaccredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International on May 13, 2016. The Certified Financial Planning (CFP) Board also approved the Financial Planning & Wealth Management B.S. in 2018.
University of Delaware Application Requirements
Admission to the University of Delaware is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since just 16,648 of the 27,803 Fall 2017 applicants were selected for 60 percent acceptance. First-year Fightin’ Blue Hens seeking an Accounting or Finance (B.S.) must finish high school with 18 academic units or more. The middle 50 percent of freshmen have GPAs of 3.60-3.99. Mid-range SAT scores are 1200-1350. Most admitted undergrads score at least 25 on the ACT. Transfers with under 29 accredited credits are only considered for the Associate in Arts. Successful transfers generally hold GPAs above 2.50. The Honors Program requires cumulative GPAs of 3.4 and greater. Non-native English speakers need a 90 TOEFL iBT or 6.5 IELTS score. All graduate programs require 120 credits for a four-year bachelor’s and minimum 3.0 GPA. The Accounting (M.S.) has several prerequisites like Intermediate Accounting, Economics, and Cost Analysis. The Financial Services Analytics (Ph.D.) mandates at least 670 GMAT or163 GRE Quantitative marks.
The University of Delaware allows freshman admission from August 1st to January 15th. Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics transfers must apply by May 1st for Fall or November 1st for Spring. MBA cohorts must apply by July 1st, May 1st, or January 1st. International MBA learners are only considered until June 1st or November 15th though. Potential Financial Services Analytics (Ph.D.) candidates must file before February 1st. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, the University of Delaware charged full-time First State undergrads $6,125 each semester. Non-resident Accounting and Finance (B.S.) majors paid $16,440 per term. Bachelor’s fees were $715 each full-time term. Living at the Newark campus’ dorms like Sussex Hall added $3,587 to $5,258 for semester rent. Unlimited meal plans for Caesar Rodney Dining Hall were $2,566 extra. UD budgeted $2,800 for indirect costs like books and supplies. Annual undergrad attendance equaled $29,342 in-state and $49,972 out-of-state. The Accounting (M.S.) billed Delawareans $825 and non-residents $1,000 per credit. Online MBA in Finance students spent $812 per credit or $35,728 overall. The Financial Services Analytics (Ph.D.) has a base tuition of $1,827 per credit.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Student Financial Services Office at 30 Lovett Avenue gets 63 percent of UD Fightin’ Blue Hens median aid of $9,573 each for $107.52 million combined. Business funds include the Donald Puglisi Scholarship, Finance Faculty Junior Scholarship, Howard & Arlene Simon Scholarship, Leon & Margaret Slocomb Outstanding Student Award, Robert Schweitzer Memorial Scholarship, Rudolph & Mabel D’Souza Scholarship, and Walter Stark Scholar Award. The Alfred Lerner College has 10-hour graduate assistantships with $4,500 semester stipends available. MBA students maintaining minimum 3.0 GPAs can deduct 50 percent off tuition with the Graduate Scholarship. The Trustee Scholarship gifts $6,000 yearly for freshmen meeting the 33 ACT or 1500 SAT mark. Submitting the FAFSA form coded 001431 by January 15th opens federal assistance, including the Pell Grant. The Delaware Higher Education Office also presents the Governor’s Education Grant, Scholarship Incentive Program, and Education Benefits for Children of Deceased Veterans.
