Tulsa Community College offers students the chance to earn degrees and certificates on four campuses in Oklahoma or online. One of the top programs available is an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Accounting. It includes options for students to complete certificates and then transition to the program or to pick up certificates while they earn their degrees. The program features 30 credits of general courses and 30 credits of accounting classes. Those classes include Financial Accounting, Payroll Administration, Accounting Information Systems, Accounting Software Applications and Income Tax I and II.
The accounting assistant certificate program prepares students for assisting CPAs and other accounting professionals in the workplace. Students take two classes over four semesters on a part-time basis. They also have the option of taking more classes after the first semester to complete their certificates in 18 months or less. Introduction to Ethics: Business Issues and Business Communications are two of the business requirements in this program. In the general accounting certificate program, students can become accounting specialists. They can join Phi Beta Lambda too, which is an organization designed for future business leaders. Students take 21 credits of accounting classes and nine credits of computer information systems courses.
Also available is a certificate program designed for those who want to work as accounting software application specialists. The 21 required credits of accounting courses that students take include Peachtree, Managerial Accounting, Payroll Accounting and Quickbooks Pro – Comprehensive, which is a course that teaches them the fundamentals of using Quickbooks software. Students can earn certificates in income tax and payroll administration too.
An Accounting AAS in Accounting Specialist is another degree program offered by Tulsa Community College. It includes three credits of business classes, nine credits of computer information systems courses and 30 credits of accounting classes along with some general education options. Students in this program learn how to use computer software, including Excel and MS Office. They will take Intermediate Accounting I and II, Income Tax I and II, Financial Accounting and Accounting Information Systems among other classes. Also available from Tulsa Community College is an Associate of Science (AS) Business Administration, which is available online and on the Southeast Campus. Students can complete certificates in general business or business computer users too.
About Tulsa Community College
Tulsa Community College is a community college also known as TCC. Established in 1970, it caters to students in northeastern Oklahoma and educates more students than any other school in that region. The community college system includes the Metro Campus in downtown Tulsa, the Northeast Campus that offers programs in criminal justice, engineering and science and the Southeast Campus, which offers programs in accounting, interior design, management, and theater. There is also a West Campus and an online campus. TCC operates an Education Outreach Center with bilingual representatives on hand to talk with students and answer any general questions they have about the school. Multiple clinics and centers offer other opportunities for students, including internships and work-study positions. Between the online campus and the physical campuses across Oklahoma, Tulsa Community College now has an enrollment of more than 24,000 students.
Tulsa Community College Accreditation Details
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accredited TCC and all its degree programs. This organization does routine checks on the college to look at its admissions policy, professor histories and other factors to make sure that it should retain its status. This is the accreditation necessary for any student who will apply for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which also helps them qualify for aid from the state government and the college.
Tulsa Community College Application Requirements
At TCC, students have the option of studying on four campuses or online. No matter how or where they want to take classes, they must apply in the same way. They will start with an application that asks them to set up an account. TCC will send a college ID and pin to the student’s email. Students will use their unique pins and codes to log in each time they want to access or work on an application. The application asks for a copy of a photo ID issued by the government. To save time, the college recommends that students visit campus and submit an ID. Students also need to go online and apply for financial aid.
Those who want to take summer classes can apply online and then submit the Summer Prerequisite Approval Request Form. As soon as the college processes this form, the student can register to take one or more classes and transfer those credits to their primary colleges. TCC allows students to register for classes as long as they have a high school diploma, home school certificate or GED. To avoid taking the college’s placement test, they need to submit a standardized test score. They will also need to attend an orientation session and visit the campus to get a college ID.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tulsa Community College offers both a resident and a nonresident rate. Students who live in Oklahoma and can verify their addresses qualify for the in-state rate. They pay $112.55 per credit hour. Nonresidents pay $337.55 per credit hour. Some of the fees that students pay include a $2 facility fee and an $8 technology fee. This brings their totals to $142 per credit hour for Oklahoma residents and $367 each credit hour for non-residents.
The college offers a link to the FAFSA that lets students qualify for financial aid based on how much their parents make or how much they make if they qualify for independent status. Veterans who need financial aid can submit the FAFSA and apply to the college before meeting with a counselor to go over their financial needs. Some of the same benefits are available for those enlisted in the military. The Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant goes to residents who show need on the FAFSA and take at least six credits of classes. Students can combine that grant with Pell and other federal grants. TCC offers scholarships for students who complete the FAFSA and the TCC Foundation Scholarship Application. The financial aid packages offered by Tulsa Community College can cover the total cost of attendance in one of its accounting or finance programs.
