Finance and Accounting Programs at Temple University

The Fox School of Business at Temple University offers degree programs through its Department of Accounting and Department of Finance. Undergrads in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program can choose a concentration in accounting. They’ll complete some of the 150 credit hours of classes needed to take the state’s professional exams. This program is available on-campus, online and as an accelerated program that takes only three years to finish. All majors will take Federal Taxes on Income, Auditing, Cost Accounting and Intermediate Accounting I and II.
Prior to taking a professional licensing exam, students can complete the minimum number of credits needed through the university’s Master of Accountancy program. This is a full-time program that asks students to join cohorts and work in those groups over three semesters. Students typically take 11 credits in the first semester, 10 in the second and nine in the third. Those credits include courses such as Taxes and Business Strategy, Concepts and Analysis of Financial Statements, Professional Skills Development, Enterprise Systems and Internal Controls and Advanced Studies in Financial Reporting. Temple University now offers a Ph.D. in Accounting too that includes a dissertation requirement.
Through the university’s Department of Finance, students can both major and minor in finance. The BBA in Finance program teaches students how to analyze financial statements, manage financial portfolios and invest the funds of their clients. This program includes Intermediate Corporate Finance, International Finance, and Security Analysis and Portfolio Management. Students will need to choose a concentration in either corporate finance or asset pricing too. Both concentrations include a capstone requirement that students do in the last semester.
At the graduate level, Temple University offers Master of Science programs in Financial Analysis, Financial Analysis and Qualitative Risk Management and Qualitative Finance and Risk Management. Students can choose from a 10-month full-time program, a part-time two-year program or an immersive program that takes 22 months to complete. Financial Technology, Corporate Finance, Corporate Value Management, Professional Development, and Financial Reporting and Analysis are some of the classes available for graduate students. An on-campus Global MBA or and online MBA are also offered.
Also available is a Ph.D. program in both business administration and finance. It offers both full-time and part-time enrollment options and gives students up to seven years to finish their work. This program includes Special Topics in Finance, Game Theory, and Capital Market Research among other courses. Students must take a comprehensive exam and do a dissertation also.
About Temple University
Temple University is a large private university in Pennsylvania. Russell Conwell attended Yale and spent years working as a lawyer and a Baptist minister before moving to Philadelphia. While working for a local church, he started a tutoring service to help adults get their degrees. This program grew more popular as the church added other services for local residents and would form the basis of The Temple College. Established in 1884, it received a state charter four years later and became the Temple College of Philadelphia. After acquiring a medical school and a law school, it became Temple University.
Sometimes called TU, Temple now has a main campus in North Philadelphia and five other campuses in Pennsylvania. International campuses allow students to study in both Tokyo and Rome. Temple University Accreditation Details
Both the accountancy and finance programs available at Temple University have accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This same accreditation also applies to the other business degrees that are available. Students who need to transfer credits to Temple can because it has regional accreditation. This is also why both undergrads and advanced students can get financial aid when they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). That accreditation comes from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).
Temple University Application Requirements
Temple releases its undergraduate application on August first and has a priority deadline of November first. It extends this deadline to February first after which it institutes a rolling admissions policy. This policy allows the university to accept applications after the beginning of February until it fills all spots in its freshman class. Students will report their transcripts on either the Temple Application or the Common Application. They also pay a $55 application fee, upload their essays to the applications and submit their test scores.
The Fox School of Business has an application portal that students use when applying to graduate or doctoral programs in finance and accounting. They must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher when they apply and either have or will have a bachelor’s degree when they enroll. Each program requires a resume, transcripts, a GMAT or GRE score and three letters of recommendation that references can submit through the mail or online. The application includes an essay component and charges a $60 fee.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergrads attending Temple pay $10,308 per semester as full-time students and Pennsylvania residents. This price increases to $18,804 per semester for nonresidents. Students enrolled on a part-time basis pay $859 per credit hour as a resident and $1,567 per credit hour as a nonresident. The university also offers reduced tuition for online students enrolled in a BBA program of $595 per credit hour. To help students get financial aid, Temple encourages them to use the FAFSA as early as possible. This helps undergrad finance and accounting majors qualify for loans, work-study, scholarships, and grants.
Temple does not charge a nonresident rate but allows all graduate students to pay the same amount of $1,114 per credit hour. This includes all their fees but does not include room and board or their other living and school expenses. Two merit scholarships are available and have deadlines of November first and December 10. Students who need more help can apply for scholarships through the middle of April. Temple asks that students submit the FAFSA to demonstrate that they need and to submit an application to show their merit. Assistantships provide qualified students with a stipend and a waiver that covers their tuition costs. Other scholarships are available for accounting and finance graduate and doctoral students at Temple University, including special programs for military students.
