Syracuse University offers its students the choice of more than 20 academic programs, which include several programs in finance and accounting. Finance and accounting degrees are handled within the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and students have six choices for programs. Degrees include bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance, minors in accounting and finance, and graduate programs that award a Master of Science in Professional Accounting and a Master of Science in Finance.
According to the university, about half of the school’s accounting graduates are able to find employment with the Big Four of the accounting world, as well as major CPA firms. One of the interesting features of the undergraduate accounting program at Syracuse University is the dual enrollment option, which allows students to enroll in a science major and also earn a degree in accounting.

For students interested in online study, the Accounting@Syracuse option is a recently created online Master of Science in Accounting program. Online students can prepare for work as CPAs, as well as for future work as corporate treasurers, financial analysts, auditors, and financial consultants. There are three distinct sequences available in the online accounting graduate program. Similarly, the finance programs at Syracuse University prepare students for work in a variety of environments as brokers, bankers, asset managers, or financial advisors.

Syracuse University is a private research university that was founded in 1870 by the Methodist Episcopal Church. The university would declare itself nonsectarian in 1920 but would still maintain a relationship with its founding church, the United Methodist Church. The school’s campus covers 683 acres in Syracuse, and around 22,400 students attend with approximately 7,200 of those students enrolled for graduate study. The school’s yearly budget is more than $950 million.
Within the university, programs are housed within 13 schools and colleges. The school’s sole official color is orange, and the mascot is named Otto the Orange. Students who play on the university’s official sports teams do so as the Orange, and they play in NCAA Division I games. Regional accreditation for Syracuse University comes from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The university last received accreditation in 2018 and will begin the reaccreditation process again during the 2026 to 2027 school year. Some of the programs at Syracuse University are accredited by national, state, and independent agencies. Programmatic accreditations includes one for the graduate nursing program, which is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc.
Other accreditations have been received from the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the American Bar Association, Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. Syracuse University Application Requirements
Admissions requirements for first-year students at Syracuse University include having graduated from high school or having current status as a high school student. The student’s high school must be an accredited institution. Homeschooled students are welcome to apply, but must meet special requirements for their education. Applicants must also submit standardized test scores from the ACT, or SAT. Students aren’t required to complete the writing or essay portions of the SAT or ACT.
Application materials include the common application, official secondary school transcripts, and a senior year grade report. Students must also submit two academic recommendations, as well as an Early Decision agreement, if the student is interested in applying early. Some programs do have college-specific requirements, and students are encouraged to contact the program they want to enter to confirm whether the program needs any extra materials.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition at Syracuse University is $52,210 and is the same for all students, regardless of residency status. Housing and meals are charged at an additional $15,910, miscellaneous fees at $1,639, and the university estimates total direct costs at $69,759 per year. There are also some non-billable costs that may add an additional $3,310 to the total. Those costs include books, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses. Students may also need to pay a health insurance fee of $1,730.
For graduate students, the cost of Syracuse University tuition and fees is $37,276, with an additional $17,256 for room and board for students who choose to live on campus. For graduate students who enroll in half-time or in just a few credits, the rate for tuition is $1,620 per credit hour. Undergraduate students can also pay by the credit hour with a rate of $2,433.
Students may apply for scholarships, grants, and loans when they apply for financial aid at Syracuse University. There are some special programs that students can participate in to reduce their tuition costs, and veterans of the armed forces may also qualify for special programs.
