The State University of New York at Canton offers finance and accounting programs through the School of Business and Liberal Arts. Students can choose a minor in accounting and take three required classes and three electives. The university also offers minors in finance and fraud examination. In the fraud examination minor, students take Forensic Accounting, Criminal Law and Fraud Examination and Investigation. The State University of New York at Canton is a public university often called SUNY Canton. It was established in 1906 when St. Lawrence University opened the School of Agriculture in Canton, New York. This campus became the New York State Agriculture and Technical Institute in the early 1940s and the State University of New York Agriculture and Technical College at Canton in the 1960s. As part of the SUNY System, it began offering more opportunities for students in new fields. This would lead to a final name change when it became SUNY Canton. The university now offers certificates that students can finish in one year and associate’s degrees that they can complete in two years. The more than 3,200 students enrolled in SUNY Canton can also choose from programs that allow them to study on other campuses, including majors in forestry and environmental science.
