There are three programs in finance and accounting that students may pursue when they enroll at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Options include a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in finance, or a minor in accounting. The accounting and finance degrees at NSU are offered by the College of Business & Technology. The school has four overall goals for its students that include creating effective communicators, fostering critical thinking skills, examining global and cultural perspectives in business, and integrating technology in each program. Both degrees in accounting and finance are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Students who choose the accounting program will take classes in managerial accounting, tax, audits, and governmental accounting. Other classes include those in accounting information systems, cost accounting, and financial accounting. The accounting degree and the business administration degree offer students several opportunities to expand their knowledge through electives.
There are full and partial scholarships available in the program, and students will also receive various technology certifications throughout their pursuit of a degree. In addition to degrees in areas like accounting and business, the bachelor’s degree plan also includes liberal arts classes in marketing, natural science, English, and mathematics. Students must complete around 120 credits to earn their degree.
For students who choose the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration route, opportunities exist in areas like real estate, insurance, and finance for graduates of the program. An interesting facet of the degree plan is the Inferno Pitch session, which is a program for students that allows enrollees to interact with angel investors in a special internship.
The business degree program also helps students take pre-licensing courses, so students with interest in the finance concentration may obtain a real estate license, a property & casualty insurance license, or an accident insurance license. Classes that students will take in the degree program include economics, finance, computer information systems, business administration, and management.

Accreditation for Northwestern State University of Louisiana has been granted by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCC). Accreditation allows the university to award doctoral, masters, baccalaureate, associate, and specialist degrees. The university undergoes a reaccreditation process with the SACSCC every ten years. Northwestern State University of Louisiana Application Requirements
Undergraduate students who want to take college classes for the first time will complete the online application, submit their official standardized test scores, and send high school transcripts. First-year students must also send immunization records, and male applicants must register for the Selective Service. Students will also apply for additional scholarships and select a campus housing option and a meal plan during the application process.
For graduate students, the application process is similar. Students will complete the online application, submit official transcripts from college, and submit official scores from the GRE. Prospective graduate students must also send two letters of recommendation and pay an application fee of $25. Students interested in online applications will send the same items as traditional applicants but won’t need to apply for housing or select a meal plan.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for undergraduate classes at Northwestern State University of Louisiana is $2,590 for 12 credit hours. Students will also pay $1,331 in registration fees, a $273 student association fee, and a $96 health services fee. Non-residents will pay an additional $5,394 in out-of-state tuition. Students who take classes exclusively online will pay a different rate than on-campus students. The cost of undergraduate classes is $375 per credit hour for the first 12 hours and then $100 for each additional credit. For graduate students, the rate is $475 per credit for the first 12 hours and an additional $100 for all other credits. Internet-only students aren’t charged tuition based on their residency status. Members of the military receive a discount rate of $192 per credit.
Students can qualify for federal student aid when they submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and can meet the federal aid eligibility requirements. Establishing and maintaining eligibility includes being a degree-seeking student, having a high school diploma or alternative diploma, and being a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen. Students must also maintain acceptable progress on their degree paths.
Students should submit their financial aid application by the school deadline of May 1 and may submit their information as early as October of the previous year. Students will receive a Student Aid Report about two weeks after they complete their FAFSA application.
