Finance and Accounting Programs Offered at North Hennepin Community College

At North Hennepin Community College, students can choose from two accounting degree programs and one certificate track. The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Accounting is the largest program offered by the college. It features a business foundation that includes seven classes such as Principles of Marketing, Legal Environment of Business, Principles of Management and Business Communications and Technology. Majors also take an accounting capstone and five required classes, including Small Business Income Tax, Managerial Accounting, Decision Making Excel and Small Business Payroll.
An Associate of Science (AS) in Accounting is also available as a transfer pathways program. The college designed this program to meet the needs of students who want to earn a bachelor’s in accounting. It allows them to spend two years at the community college to live close to home and save money before they transfer to nearly 20 schools in Minnesota, including Metropolitan State University and Minnesota State University campuses. Business Computer Systems, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, College Writing and Fundamentals of Public Speaking are some of the courses in this program.
In the accounting skills certificate program, students learn the basic skills required for entry-level work in the accounting and business fields. Once they finish the program, they can apply all their credits to either of the accounting degree programs and transfer credits to another school. Students take a total of 16 credits and must complete a minimum of five credits from North Hennepin Community College. They will take 14 credits of electives to complete their certificates. The college also requires that they maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher to graduate.
A finance major is also available as part of the college’s AAS in Finance Management. It helps students learn the fundamentals of finance principles and includes credits that will transfer to four Concordia University campuses and three other colleges in Minnesota. Students take the 19 credits in the business core, which includes Introduction to Business, Financial Accounting and Human Relations and Professional Skills. They also take general education courses and seven finance classes, including Introduction to Business Finance, Investments, Entrepreneurship, Personal Financial Planning, and Financial Statement Analysis.
Before earning a finance management degree, students can earn a certificate in finance and investments. This program includes five classes that are worth 14 credits and asks that students take another 16 credits of electives. They only need to take four credits from the college and can transfer credits from another school. The program also lets students transfer to a bachelor’s program at North Hennepin Community College or another college.

North Hennepin Community College is a community college that is part of the Minnesota State System of schools. Established in 1966, it opened as a school dedicated to the education of students from Brooklyn Park and surrounding areas. The college maintains its commitment to those students through the special programs available today. North Hennepin Community College Accreditation Details
NHCC students who need financial aid can get a package from the college that includes government aid because the school has regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Those in nursing and MLT programs pay higher rates.
