Accounting and Finance Programs at Milwaukee Area Technical College

Milwaukee Area Technical College offers both finance and accounting programs through its School of Business. Students can get an associate degree in accounting, which is available online and on three of the college’s campuses. At least 12 of the classes they take are part of the technical core, including Legal Environment of Business, Income Taxation, Accounting Software Applications, Accounting for Managers and Introduction to Money, Banking and Financial Markets.
Students can earn a diploma or certificate as they work on an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in accounting. One is an accounting bookkeeper trainee certificate. It includes only three classes: Computerized Accounting, Accounting I and Accounting Software Applications. The accounting assistant diploma program includes nine classes that are worth 29 credits that prepare students for assisting accounting professionals. Accounting I, Legal Environment of Business, Income Taxation, Computerized Accounting, and Payroll Accounting are among the required courses. Milwaukee Area Technical College allows students to complete a certificate or diploma by itself or to transfer the credits from one of those programs into the full accounting degree program.
Also available are three AAS programs in business such as the business management program. Both on-campus and online majors can choose a career emphasis in a field such as management or accounting. They’ll take Business Career Planning, Management Principles, MS Office for Business and Risk Management and Insurance. In the business analyst program, students learn how to make decisions and analyze data as they take classes such as Business Analyst Essentials, Business Analyst Planning and Management, Math with Business Applications and Data Reporting. There is an internship requirement too. The college also offers an accelerated business management program.
Finance majors can enroll in the college’s AAS in Banking and Financial Services program. It allows students to start in August or January and take courses that will transfer to a four-year degree program. Students will take at least 21 credits of general education courses and 15 finance and banking classes. Those classes include Principles of Banking, Selling Principles, Introduction to Money, Banking and Financial Markets, Credit Management Procedures and Risk Management and Insurance. Milwaukee Area Technical College students can also earn certificates in entrepreneurship, financial services trainee and business management trainee.

Milwaukee Area Technical College is a public college that serves as both a community college and vocational school. Founded in 1912, it is one of the oldest two-year schools in Minnesota. The college originally opened as a school for students who dropped out of high school. They had the chance to work on vocational degrees and diplomas with support from local employers. It would later become the Milwaukee Vocational and Adult School and then Milwaukee Vocational, Adult and Technical School. The college became the Milwaukee Area Technical College or MATC in 1968 after merging with the Milwaukee Institute of Technology.
The main campus in this system is in downtown Milwaukee, which offers weekend classes, evening courses, and options for traditional and online students. Three other campuses are in Mequon, Oak Creek, and West Allis. The college partnered with a local television station to take over Milwaukee PBS. This allows the college to provide prospective students with information in a convenient format. MATC has an enrollment of more than 35,000 students across all four campuses.
Milwaukee Area Technical College Accreditation Details
MATC has regional accreditation, which students can confirm on the college’s website or when they check with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). This allows students to get assistance and financial aid through the government programs that provide them with loans and grants because it gives them access to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). HLC accreditation also allows students to transfer credits to a four-year college or university that has regional accreditation.
Milwaukee Area Technical College Application Requirements
Incoming students only need to complete six steps to apply to MATC and enroll in classes. They all start with the application, which they can fill out online or on any of the four MATC campuses. Students can either print the application off the web or pick up a copy from a campus. Whey they use the paper application, they need to pay the application form as a check or money order and attach it to the application. Those who apply online can pay this fee with a debit card or credit card.
Students will then create and activate their MATC accounts, which they can do by clicking a link in the email sent by the college. This lets them go online and sign up for the next orientation session. The orientation shows students how to sign up for classes. They will also need to submit their high school or college transcripts and register for classes. MATC asks that incoming students either apply for financial aid, make payment arrangements or pay their tuition before they attend a new student welcome session and take classes.
Tuition and Financial Aid
All students pay the same rate to attend MATC. They pay $462.90 to take a course that is worth three credits. The college charges $925.80 each semester for students who take six credits of classes and $2,314.50 for students who take a full 15 credits of classes. Students pay a $10 per credit hour fee to take online classes and a $40 fee to purchase a parking pass, which lets them park in certain lots on the MATC campus.
Payment plans are available for any student who takes a minimum of three credit hours. Students will need to register for their classes, apply for a payment plan and sign a contract. They’ll pay $30 to sign up for the plan and then make payments each month.
Students who submit the FAFSA and meet all eligibility requirements will qualify for a financial aid package. They may receive work-study, which asks them to look for positions available on the MATC Job Board. Students can get grants, loans, and scholarships also. The scholarship application opens in February of each year and closes during the fall semester. Students can apply for scholarships that give them money during each of the two main semesters. Milwaukee Area Technical College encourages students to submit the FAFSA and apply for scholarships when they apply to an accounting or finance program.
