Finance and Accounting Programs at Lenoir Community College

Lenoir Community College offers a variety of options for students who want to study finance and accounting, including a degree program in this field and several certificate options. The small business accounting certificate trains students on how to do the accounting practices for a small business. It features 15 credits of required and technical courses, including Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting and Federal Income Taxes. Students also take a class on accounting software.
The college offers an accounting essential certificate (CTE) too, which is available for traditional college and high school students. High school students can complete this certificate through classes that also count towards those needed for their diplomas. Not only can they use those credits if they enroll in Lenoir Community College later, but they can transfer those classes to another college or university too. It features only 14 credits and includes the same courses as the small business accounting certificate program does. In the accounting and finance diploma program, students take 33 credits. Introduction to Computers, Spreadsheet, Accounting Software Applications, and Government and Not for Profit Accounting are some of the program’s required classes.
Lenoir Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Accounting and Finance. It features a curriculum designed to help graduates find work as financial analysts and taxation specialists. Majors take 15 credits of general education classes in English, math, science, psychology and fine arts. At least 51 of their credits will include accounting and finance classes such as Federal Income Taxes, Payroll Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Principles of Macroeconomics and Business Math. The college offers related electives too, including Introduction to Business, Ethics in Accounting and Personal Finance. Students can earn up to four credits through accounting internships too. Both the certificate programs and the AAS program are available online.
Also available is an AAS in Business Administration as an online and residential program. It features 50 credits of major courses, including Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Management, Business Law, Introduction to Computers and Principles of Marketing. Students can take accounting and finance classes as some of their electives and do internships. Students can take just 12 credits of courses and earn a business administration essential certificate also.
About Lenoir Community College
Lenoir Community College is a community college in North Carolina named for Lenoir County, which is home to its main campus. Established in 1958, the college adopted several nicknames over the years, including LCC and Lenoir CC. Some also call it just Lenoir. Originally designed for students in Lenoir County, the college expanded to meet the needs of students in other counties and cities through satellite campuses. There are now study centers in Snow Hill, La Grange, Trenton, and Jetport. The college also offers classes at campuses designed for automotive students and those majoring in other fields. It also operates a workforce center for adult students and has a pathways program for those still in high school. Though the main campus has an enrollment of more than 3,500 students, more than 12,000 attend the college’s other branches.
Lenoir Community College Accreditation Details
Though LCC students can qualify for scholarships and other forms of financial aid, they cannot get an aid package without using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is open to any student attending a college or university with regional accreditation, which LCC has. The college obtained accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). It also has accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Commission on Accreditation of the Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Professions (CAEPEMP).
Lenoir Community College Application Requirements
Lenoir CC has two different applications available for incoming students. It designed one for traditional students who have a high school diploma or a GED. The other application is for adults who want to take classes in workforce training and development. New students and those who spent a year or more away from the college will use the same application. To qualify for the in-state resident rate, students must visit a website operated by the state and complete a form, which gives them a code. They need to enter that code on the application to let the college know that they qualify for that rate.
The LCC application is available online and features a few sections that students need to complete. They should then submit the FAFSA and make sure that the college receives either a high school or GED transcript. Lenoir uses the scores that students earned in their high school classes to place them in their math and English courses. Students with a grade point average of 2.8 or higher can register for any class, but those with a lower GPA can only pick from a limited number of courses. The college also offers a standardized test that students can take to get into higher-level classes. Students who finished high school more than 10 years ago and does not have a recent ACT/SAT score will also need to take this test.
Tuition and Financial Aid
In-state tuition is available for students who lived in North Carolina for at least 12 months before they applied to the college. They also need to show that they reside in the state and intend to remain there in the near future. Those students pay around $45 in fees each semester and tuition of $76 per credit hour. Students who do not live in the state pay $268 per credit hour and the same amount of fees. They pay between $1,278 and $4,350 each semester for full-time enrollment based on which rate they pay.
The Office of Financial Aid at Lenoir CC offers assistance to students who have questions about their financial aid packages or need help with the FAFSA. Student employment is available for those who qualify for work-study. Most positions are on the LCC campus, but students may find work off the campus too. They can get two grants from the federal government and several grants that go to students who need help paying for daycare or the cost of attending a community college. Students applying to the finance and accounting programs offered at Lenoir Community College may receive one or more scholarships too.
