Johnson & Wales University offers a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Accounting and Financial Analysis that provides students with the ability to analyze financial and non-financial information while also helping them understand the importance of numbers in a business environment. The program is endorsed by the Institute of Management Accountants, one of only 32 with that distinction in the country. Those enrolled in the program can join IMA and participate in monthly meetings on campus. The program is only available at the Charlotte campus, although some courses may be available in an online format. Some of the courses required for the program include:

The Bachelor of Science in Finance includes information on capital management, investment and portfolio management, financial institutions as well as personal finance. These skills prepare graduates for careers in financial markets, investment banking and securities. The program is taught in a student-centered, hands-on manner, providing students with skills that will make them ready for a career in finance. Students work in teams next to industry-credentialed faculty, developing skills in case discussions, spreadsheet analysis and investment projects. Some of the courses required include:

The program is only available at the Providence campus, although some courses may be available in an online format.
Johnson & Wales offers a Master of Science in Finance that is available completely online. The program can be completed in less than two years with classes that last eight weeks. Students gain an understanding of complex financial software that can help them gain value for clients. There are two tracks available – Chartered Financial Analyst or Financial Planner. Students interested in becoming a financial planner can meet the requirement and qualify to sit for the CEP certification examination as the program is registered with the CFP Board. Students gain an understanding of financial theories in order to solve economic challenges in industry as well as how to apply quantitative and qualitative methods to solve financial problems. Graduates are also able to critique and interpret financial data to assess performance. Some of the courses required include:

About Johnson & Wales
Johnson & Wales was founded in 1914 by Gertrude I Johnson and Mary T. Wales as a business school in Providence, Rhode Island. The two women met as students at the Pennsylvania State Normal School in Millersville, Pennsylvania, where they were both training to be teachers. The two women joined together again as teachers at the Bryant and Stratton Business School in Providence where they decided to open their own business school. Johnson & Wales opened with one student and one typewriter in a building on Hope Street. Enrollment grew and the school moved to Olney Street.
After World War I, soldiers returning home caused enrollment in the school to grow significantly. They moved to 36 Exchange Street, continuing to teach bookkeeping, typing, shorthand, English, and math to both men and women. In 1947, Johnson and Wales, who were growing older and dealing with illness, sold the school to Edward Triangelo and Morris Gaebe, who met in the Navy. At the time, the school had approximately 100 students. Triangelo and Gaebe grew the school rapidly and it received national accreditation as a junior college in 1954. In 1963, the school registered as a non-profit and, in 1972, Gaebe, then acting as President, introduced a hospitality program which was met with skepticism. The program’s initial enrollment was 141 in 1973 and by 1983 was 3,000. The culinary programs became widely recognized. The school gained university status in 1988.
Today, Johnson & Wales has four physical campuses as well as a strong online campus. The student to faculty ratio is 19:1 and 95.4 percent of graduates are employed within 6 months of graduation.
Johnson & Wales Accreditation Details
Johnson & Wales is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. Accreditation demonstrates to parents, students, and employers that graduates of Johnson & Wales have been provided excellence in education based on criteria set by the Commission. The school undergoes periodic review to confirm that standards continue to be met and the school agrees to address any areas that are identified as needing improvement during that review.
The Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. The Master of Science in Physician Studies is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for the Physician Assistant.
Johnson & Wales Admission Requirements
In order to apply as an undergraduate, applicants must complete an online application and submit official high school transcripts. ACT and SAT scores are optional unless the applicant plans to enter an Honors program. Transfer students must follow the same admission requirements as applicants who have not earned college credit after high school graduation. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities must be provided and the applicant must be in good standing at the college or university they are currently attending.
Graduate admission requirements vary depending on the program. Applicants must contact a graduate admissions counselor before applying.
Johnson & Wales Tuition & Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition is $33,054 per year while graduate tuition is $763 per credit hour. Over 90 percent of Johnson & Wales students receive some type of financial aid. In order to qualify for financial assistance, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the form must be renewed each year.
Financial aid may be offered in the form of gift aid, such as grants or scholarships, which do not have to be repaid. It may also be in the form of loans which must be repaid after graduation. Some students may be offered work-study programs where employment is provided to offset the cost of tuition. There are also some scholarships available specifically for transfer students.
Johnson & Wales offers on-campus and online programs designed to prepare graduates for leadership roles in their field of study. Graduates of Johnson & Wales are able to move into a new career or advance in a current career based on their skills and knowledge.
