Online on Blackboard GO, the Internet Academy offers an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) in Accounting for Herkimer County Community College Generals to practice analyzing financial data on corporate statements. Chaired by Prof. Amy Getman, the 64-credit, MSCHE-accredited paths span four 16-week semesters with Web-based courses like Business Law and Cost Accounting. Undergrads could add the 30-credit, NPMA-approved Property and Asset Management Certificate for courses from Quality Assurance to Asset Valuation online. The Small Business Management Certificate builds a 31-credit, 12-month track of 100 percent online classes, such as Financial Mathematics and Payroll Accounting. Associate majors can transfer via 2+2 agreements at 11 senior colleges, including Buffalo State, Saint Rose, and Bellevue. Learners might also intern with Prudential, pledge Phi Theta Kappa, use the Open Educational Resources (OER), and join the Student Ambassadors Program.
About Herkimer County Community College
Herkimer County Community College was established by the SUNY Board of Trustees on January 13, 1996, as New York’s 29th two-year, lower-division institution. In Fall 1967, Herkimer welcomed an inaugural class of 221 to its provisional Ilion campus at Remington Arms. In 1968, President Robert McLaughlin formed the Phi Beta Lambda Chapter. In 1970, Tom LaPuma started Herkimer’s sports programs in the National Junior College Athletic Association. In 1971, Herkimer County provided its permanent home conveniently off Interstate 90 on Reservoir Road. In 1984, HCCC graduated the well-known cinematographer Shane Hurlbut. The next year, Professor William Pelz founded the College Learning Center. Fully accredited in 1988, HCCC began off-site courses at Mount Markham High School in 1989. Five years later, Herkimer County Community College launched its Old Forge Center. In April 1995, HCCC created its first World Wide Web platform.

Herkimer County Community College Accreditation Details
On November 19, 2015, Herkimer County Community College satisfactorily submitted a Fifth-Year Periodic Review Report to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to extend the Level I accreditation status through the next 2019-20 evaluation under President Cathleen McColgin, Ph.D., who earned the SUNY Chancellor’s Award of Excellence. Located 283 miles south via Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, this superb six-state Mid-Atlantic Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to review HCCC’s 41 associate and five certificate options. Further, the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Programs (NACEP) has accredited the College Now Program since 2006.
Herkimer County Community College Application Requirements
Enrollment at Herkimer County Community College is classified “least selective” by the U.S. News & World Report since 100 percent of the 954 Fall 2017 entrants had open access. First-year Generals seeking the A.A.S./A.S. in Accounting still must complete a Regents high school diploma or an equivalent. Homeschooled students must meet Section 100.10 requirements under SUNY regulations. Individuals age 16 or older who achieve at least 500 GED or 2500 TASC scores qualify. Freshmen should have 2.0 or higher GPAs for good academic standing. Placement tests are required for secondary averages below 88. One exception is for undergrads exceeding the 500 SAT and 21 ACT subject score marks. Completing the College Now Program with at least C grades also counts for waivers. International students typically need a minimum 500 paper or 61 internet TOEFL score. The Accounting Department allows associate majors to transfer up to 45 regionally accredited credits. Most 2+2 transfer agreements require maintaining cumulative GPAs above 2.5.
Herkimer County Community College has a rolling admission process for decisions in 1-2 weeks. Final freshman deadlines are August 10th for Fall and December 10th for Spring starts. Undergrad transfers can apply until September 1st or January 18th. It’s suggested non-U.S. residents file before July 1st or November 1st. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Herkimer County Community College is billing in-state A.S./A.A.S. in Accounting majors $2,435 each semester. Non-resident tuition is $3,750 per full-time semester. Studying part-time incurs $174 to $300 per credit. Undergrads cover the $210 student life fee and $120 technology fee each term. Out-of-state learners pay the $150 capital fee by semester. International student health insurance is priced at $575 per term. The Internet Academy has a $16 fee per online course. Living at the Mohawk Valley campus’ housing like Reservoir Run adds $6,098 to $7,140 for rent. Standard 19-meal plans for the Dining Center are $2,016 extra. Institutional funds include the Bull Family Merit Scholarship, Bea & Pliny Applegate Memorial Scholarship, Christine Mergenthaler Award, Cogar Foundation Scholarship, Cosentino Scholarship, Curtis Francisco Scholarship, D’Arcangelo & Co. Accounting Scholarship, Deneski-Wolf Scholarship, Frank Cancelino Memorial Scholarship, Grace McLaughlin Scholarship, Hummel Scholarship, and Jack Christenson Prize. The Foundation Tuition Scholarship covers in-state costs for Herkimer County high school grads ranking in the top 15 percent. The Margaret Quackenbush Scholarship gifts $6,500 to second-year students transferring to SUNY bachelor’s programs.
