Earning a degree in finance or accounting from Granite State College is easy because the college offers several different options for students today. One of its programs that is suitable for those who want to learn more about business is the Associate of Science in Business. It takes only two years for full-time students to complete and includes both finance and accounting classes. Students will take Principles of Economics, Principles of Management, Principles of Marketing and Financial Accounting. They can then find work in the field or remain at the college to earn a bachelor’s degree.
The main undergraduate program designed by the college allows students to complete a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance, which is offered on campus, online, or in a blended format. It combines both fields of study into one program that can prepare students for attending grad school and getting a certification or for working in an accounting firm or for a leading financial agency. The college offers a transfer pathway program for students working on an associate degree. It allows them to take just a few courses and then transfer into the full bachelor’s program.
Students seeking a bachelor’s degree will need to take general education courses that cover topics such as American culture, communications, and English composition. They will also take both finance and accounting courses that teach them detailed information and give them a broad overview of the principles in those fields. These courses can include Accounting Information Systems, Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting, Auditing, Principles of Economics and Financial Modeling and Decision Making. Granite State College offers other courses for accounting and finance majors such as Financial Management, Investment Principles and Legal and Ethical Issues in Business Management.
In addition to the accounting and finance program, Granite State College offers other Bachelor of Science programs that appeal to students with an interest in business. The business management program focuses on the principles behind employment and management, while the health care management program looks at the issues of working in the health care industry. Students can also study operations management, human resource administration, marketing and technology management at the college.
About Granite State College
Granite State College is a small college that caters to nontraditional types of learners. Established in 1972, the college opened with a single campus in Concord, New Hampshire. New Hampshire is one of the country’s smallest states, and the founders of the college believed that students living there needed for educational opportunities. They wanted to offer courses for adults who never went to college and those who thought they didn’t have the time for school. Though the college still offers many programs that appeal to nontraditional learners, it now welcomes recent high school graduates and other types of students to apply. Also called GSC and Granite State, it is now part of the University System of New Hampshire.
Unlike other schools in the state that only offer bachelor’s and graduate degree programs, GSC focuses on programs for undergrads. It offers both associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs in dozens of fields. A small number of programs are available for students beyond the bachelor’s level too. GSC has a strong online presence and offers classes through seven locations in New Hampshire, including Portsmouth, Rochester and Conway. Some of these programs are available on community college campuses and allow students to transfer to a bachelor’s program after finishing an associate’s degree.
Granite State College Accreditation Details
Though Granite State does not have accreditation for its accounting and finance program, it does have regional accreditation, which can help students. That accreditation came from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). As the U.S. Department of Education recognizes that organization, students attending GSC can apply for financial aid and use any of the aid given to them.
Granite State College Application Requirements
Any prospective student can contact the admissions team working for GSC before they submit an application. Members of that team can talk with them about what they need to have for the application and what documents they need to submit. The college will accept any student who has a GED or a high school diploma and anyone who completed a home school curriculum. Students will submit the application online and then request official transcripts from all their former schools. Those who have college credits can submit their transcripts and let GSC evaluate their work. GSC allows students to transfer their credits and reduce the total number of classes they would otherwise need to take.
Before getting a decision from the college, students can complete the FAFSA as a way to apply for financial aid. At least 10 days before the start of the semester, students need to make payments on their accounts. This acts as a deposit and ensures that the college has space for them. GSC also asks students to go online and create the accounts that they will use to register for classes and view their financial aid packages. Their accounts also let students view the courses they need to take to complete their degrees.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Any undergrad attending GSC who is a resident of New Hampshire will qualify for the college’s in-state rate of $314 per credit hour. This is the same rate that students taking classes after finishing a bachelor’s degree will pay. Students from outside of New Hampshire pay the nonresident rate of $355 per credit hour. Tuition waivers are available from the college for students who were in foster care, seniors and members of the National Guard. Discounts for military students allow them to earn their associate’s and bachelor’s degree while only paying their course fees and for their supplies.
Most GSC students will also receive some financial aid. Once the college looks at the completed FAFSA, it can determine whether that student should get federal and state grants and/or federal loans. There are at least four grants that provide students with funds each year. Students may also qualify for federal work study and or college scholarships and grants. Multiple scholarships are available for those who need to finish a degree and those who live in New Hampshire and attend college full-time.
