About Freed-Hardeman University
Freed-Hardeman University was formally chartered on November 30, 1869, by the Tennessee State Legislature as the Henderson Male & Female Institute at Roland Hall. In 1885, its name was changed to the West Tennessee Christian College by the new Board of Trustees. Twelve years later, it become Georgie Robertson Christian College after the late 21-year-old student’s family donated $5,000. Closed down in 1907, it was revived by two alumni named A.G. Freed and N.B. Hardeman the next Fall. Finally renamed for them in 1919, Freed-Hardeman was segregated until 1964 and a junior college until 1974. By 1989, the Office of Graduate Studies began for the first Master of Arts degree. In 1994, its College of Business earned specialized accreditation for finance and accounting. Endowed for $52 million, Freed-Hardeman University now serves 1,904 Lions from 20 nations at a 13:1 ratio online and on-site in Henderson with daily chapel services and 23 clubs like Society of Future Accountants.
The U.S. News & World Report named Freed-Hardeman the 39th best Southern college, 10th top value school, and 27th best for vets university. On Niche, FHU boasts America’s 198th most conservative classes, 316th safest campus, and 375th best dorm housing. Times Higher Education placed Freed-Hardeman University among its top 800 overall. Freed-Hardeman University Accreditation Details
In April 2021, Freed-Hardeman University will host the next on-site evaluation visit from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to renew its Level V accreditation and Quality Enhancement Plan through 2031 under its 16th President David Shannon, a Mount Juliet Church of Christ minister. Located 370 miles southeast via Interstate 22 in Decatur, this 11-state Appalachia Region accreditor is authorized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to continually review FHU’s 33 baccalaureate, 14 master’s, and two doctoral programs each decade. Particularly, the College of Business was last reaffirmed by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in 2017 with a Delta Mu Delta Chapter.
Freed-Hardeman University Application Requirements
Enrolling at Freed-Hardeman University is labeled “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s because 762 of the 791 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for high 96 percent acceptance. First-year Lions prowling the Accounting or Finance BBA must complete a high school or homeschool curriculum with four English and Math courses. Tennessee GED candidates must be age 18+ with a minimum 580 score. Freshmen need a 2.25 GPA or higher on the 4.0 scale. Scoring above 980 on the New SAT, 900 on the Old SAT, or 19 on the ACT exam is required. College of Business transfers must have completed at least one full-time semester with “C” averages. The Tennessee Transfer Pathway program has an Accounting A.S. route at 12 colleges, such as Motlow and Pellissippi State Community Colleges. Dual BBA/MBA cohorts must be juniors with minimum 3.0 GPAs in 60+ credits. The Online MBA requires a four-year bachelor’s with a Common Professional Component fulfilled. Having GPAs above 3.4 waives the Graduate Management Admission Test or its equivalent. Otherwise, exceeding the 450 GMAT or 290 GRE mark is mandated.
Freed-Hardeman University has rolling undergraduate admission; however, the $250 enrollment pledge is due May 1st for Fall/Summer and November 1st for Winter/Spring starts. The Online MBA has registration deadlines of one week prior to eight-week course sessions. Accordingly, submit the free FHU Application online or by paper. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Freed-Hardeman University is billing full-time Accounting and Finance BBA majors $11,475 per semester or $22,950 annually. Studying part-time incurs $750 per credit. Mandatory fees total $0 for hassle-free tuition. Living at the Henderson campus’ dorms like Porter-Terry Hall adds $4,320 yearly for standard housing. Traditional 14-meal plans for Gano Dining Hall are $3,630 extra. FHU budgets $1,300 for books and $3,750 for miscellaneous needs. The Honors Scholarship Competition covers full tuition for freshmen with a minimum 1360 SAT or 30 ACT score. The MBA Corporate Scholarship Program deducts 25 percent for partner employees to pay only $442 per credit. Qualified Tennessee HOPE Scholars receive $3,500 to $4,500 each year while maintaining GPAs above 2.99. Residents could obtain the Tennessee Student Assistance Award, Foster Child Grant, Helping Heroes Grant, and Aspire Award.
