Online on Blackboard or face-to-face in Canandaigua, Finger Lakes Community College grants a 64-credit, two-year A.A.S. Accounting for undergrads to develop entry-level financial reporting skills within 200-level major courses like Income Taxation and Cost Accounting for 92 percent job placement. Chaired by Prof. Anoop Bhargava, the A.A.S. Business Administration builds a 64-credit, MSCHE-accredited curriculum of evening or online courses like Financial Accounting with 12-week internships at National Bank of Geneva, Thompson Health, Constellation Brands, and others. The A.S. Business Administration follows a 64-credit 2+2 track with four semesters of courses from Business Law to Managerial Accounting for easy transfer to SUNY Fredonia, Nazareth, St. John Fisher, Syracuse, and more. Lakers might also add the six-month Bookkeeping Certificate, pledge Phi Theta Kappa, engage in the Women’s Initiative on Leadership, work at the Small Business Development Center, and spend Spring Break in France.
About Finger Lakes Community College
Finger Lakes Community College originated on September 16, 1965, when the Ontario County Board of Supervisors led by Arthur B. Hawkins voted 17-2 to create a two-year college. In 1967, the Community College of the Finger Lakes was chartered by the New York Legislature. The next February, an inaugural class of 85 full-time and 125 part-time coeds enrolled. In 1975, CCFL acquired 250 acres on Lincoln Hill to erect its permanent campus. In 1977, President Charles Meder led CCFL to its initial accreditation by the Middle States Commission. In 1992, President Daniel Hayes finally adopted the Finger Lakes Community College name. In 2009, FLCC opened its famous Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center. In Spring 2012, FLCC unveiled its 78,000-square-foot, LEED-certified Student Life Center. In 2019, Finger Lakes Community College won the Logging Sports Competition.
Endowed for $2.51 million, Finger Lakes Community College now employs 114 full-time and 192 part-time faculty teaching 5,944 Lakers from nearly 300 NYS high schools online, on its 10-building Canandaigua campus, or at six satellites with more than 25 clubs like the Veterans Organization for 54 percent retention. In 2019, Finger Lakes had the SUNY Norman R. McConney Jr. Award of Excellence recipient. In 2018, FLCC won the Explorations in Diversity & Academic Excellence Award. Finger Lakes Community College accepted the 2019 APLU Sustained Excellence in Assessment Award too. Niche ranked FLCC as New York’s 18th best two-year institution. Finger Lakes Community College Accreditation Details
On November 16, 2017, Finger Lakes Community College successfully submitted the Fifth-Year Periodic Review Report to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to continue the Level I accreditation status through the 2021-22 evaluation under President Robert K. Nye, Ph.D. Located 289 miles south via Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, this special six-state Atlantic Coast accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to review FLCC’s 50+ areas of study. Finger Lakes Community College degrees are also properly registered with the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
Finger Lakes Community College Application Requirements
Enrollment at Finger Lakes Community College is classified as “non-competitive” by Peterson’s though only 2,211 of the 2,493 Fall 2018 applicants were successful for 89 percent acceptance. First-year Lakers seeking the A.A.S. Accounting or A.A.S./A.S. Business Administration should graduate from an accredited high school. New York Regents diplomas require 65 or better grades in 44 college-prep units, including eight in English and six in mathematics. Satisfactory GED and TASC score reports would be equivalent to a diploma. Cumulative GPAs of 2.0 and better are recommended to avoid probation. The Dean’s List requires a minimum 3.5 GPA each 12-credit semester. Taking the Accuplacer test is required unless freshmen receive a waiver. These waivers are offered for students with at least 500 SAT or 21 ACT subject scores. Passing 12+ college-level credits, including English 101 Composition, with C or better grades also waives the requirement. Eligible transfers must hold 1.5 or higher overall GPAs. International students must achieve a 450 TOEFL PBT or equivalent score in English.
Finger Lakes Community College has a rolling admissions process. Final deadlines are 4:00 PM on August 23rd for Fall, January 15th for Spring, and May 19th for Summer starts. Registration deadlines are noon on August 30th, January 22nd, and May 26th. Online course registration begins April 15th and November 11th. Institutional funds include the Mark Prockton Memorial Accounting Award, Dennis Morga Business Scholarship, Robert Angell Imagine Scholarship, Farash First in Family Scholarship, Kenneth Poormon Memorial Scholarship, Garlock Sealing Technologies Scholarship, Dr. Ina Sue Brown Memorial Scholarship, Donald & Jean Burgan Community Service Award, Found Word Scholarship, Ann Hamilton Memorial Scholarship, Brian Kolb Leadership Award, and Sharon Nedrow Adult Education Scholarship. The $1,000 Canandaigua National Bank Excellence Scholarship assists full-time A.A.S. Accounting majors with minimum 2.5 GPAs. The Ed & Gerry Cuony Scholarship gifts $1,000 to Geneva or DeSales High School grads with GPAs above 3.0. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant and Opportunity Grant, are opened with FAFSA applications coded 007532. Since 2017, New Yorkers with gross household income below $125,000 have qualified for the full-tuition Excelsior Scholarship.
