Surrounded by many of Minnesota’s “10,000 lakes,” Bemidji State University offers students many opportunities to study both finance and accounting. At the undergraduate level, students may choose from the broad fields of accounting, finance, marketing, and business administration. The accounting and marketing degrees are available online.
The Bachelor of Science in Accounting requires 71 degree-specific credits with the rest comprising the core curriculum. Classes include Principles of Accounting, Advanced Accounting, and Macroeconomics and the Business Cycle. Students also study taxes and tax law, and many undergraduates who plan to become tax lawyers pursue a double major in pre-law and accounting. The degrees in marketing, business administration, and finance all have similar structures, and many of the classes overlap. Even at the undergraduate level, many students major in one field and minor in the other.
Graduate students at Bemidji State University can strive for the Master of Business Administration, which is only offered as an online degree. Students can select their focus once enrolled. Classes include Managerial Finance, Business Analytics, and Managerial Accounting. Quite a few students earn their bachelor’s degrees on campus and then proceed to the online MBA thereafter. The MBA comprises 30 total credit hours. Students are allowed to complete their studies at their own pace.

Many regional institutions of higher learning during the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century began as normal schools, many of which admitted women only. Bemidji State University was no different, and it began granting two-year teaching certificates in 1919. Two years later, the university began awarding four-year bachelor’s degrees.

Bemidji State University Application Requirements
To be automatically admitted to Bemidji State University, students must either score a 21 or higher on the ACT, be in the top 50 percent of their high-school class, or both. Students who don’t meet either of these requirements may still apply for admission, but the road is more difficult than if they qualified. These students will face the Admissions Review Committee, who will examine the totality of the student’s qualifications, history, and demeanor and make a decision on that person’s admissibility. The committee’s chief concern is that the student contributes positively to the overall culture of the university.
Graduate students must have a bachelor’s degree from either a regionally accredited college or university in the United States or a foreign equivalent. Each department at Bemidji State University has its own criteria for admission, including letters of reference, resumes, essays, or in some cases, satisfactory results on the Graduate Record Examinations, Graduate Management Admissions Test, or the Miller Analogies Test. Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition at Bemidji State University is simple and straightforward. Undergraduates pay $274.40 per credit hour, and graduate students pay $432.15 per credit hour. That means that a 12-credit student will pay $3,929 per semester for undergraduate and $5,185.80 for graduate study. Most of the time, applicable fees are less than $200.
Housing rates are as follows: $3,164 for a single room, $2,717 for a double room, and $3,354 for a suite. If they’re available. double rooms can be had for a single rate of $3,304. All of these costs are per semester.
Meal plans cost $1,613 per semester. First-year students must choose either 100 or 200 meals, which also come with a selection of “Beaver Bucks.” The 100-meal plan comes with twice as many “Beaver Bucks” as the 200-meal plan. Older students may select the declining balance version of the meal plan which is all “Beaver Bucks.”
When it comes to financial aid, students always begin with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA asks students about their incomes, their parents’ incomes, and various tax-filing questions, among other questions. Based upon a student’s answers, the school and the government decide how much aid, and what kinds of aid, the student may receive.
Financial aid comes in three categories: loans, grants, and scholarships. Most students who need financial aid receive a combination of these three. Students may also apply for private financial aid, such as favorable loans from their neighborhood credit union, private scholarships based upon their socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or level of achievement, or any other monies awarded by private organizations. Students should remember, however, that such private aid counts as “income” upon the FAFSA and would affect the amount of need-based aid to which they would be entitled.
