Completing a degree from one of the master of accounting online degree programs in Texas can be a smart career move. With the right research, applicants can find the perfect program for their needs. Some schools offer limited financial assistance, and many companies provide tuition assistance to employees. The flexibility of an online, part-time degree plan lets students maintain full-time work schedules while working towards their futures. Here are two of the online options for earning a master’s degree in accounting in Texas without ever having to step foot on campus.
Prairie View A&M University
College of Business
Prairie View A&M University has been offering high-quality education for over 150 years. The College of Business builds on that legacy to deliver more than ten bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business, marketing, finance and management. With many student organizations, including the Beta Gamma Sigma honors society, a local chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and a Toastmasters International chapter, students find plenty of ways to network and build skills. A variety of classes and a low student-professor ratio round out the school’s commitment to success for students from all backgrounds.
MBA in Accounting
The College of Business’s Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting is offered 100% online. It empowers students to pursue a future as an entrepreneur; the school even hosts a Small Business Development Center to get students the resources they need to launch their own businesses. Core courses include accounting, communication, management and organizational behavior. Students can customize their learning with two, 3-hour elective courses. The school is dedicated to helping all students succeed; those without a business background can be admitted to the MBA program but may need to take additional classes. Non-traditional students are encouraged to apply. Transfer credits are accepted on an individual basis. Texas-based students can take some coursework on-campus, but the MBA in Accounting does not have any in-person or residency requirements.

University of Texas Dallas
Naveen Jindal School of Management
The Jindal School of Management (JSOM) is the largest department at the University of Texas. It’s racked up an array of awards, including being ranked as the #1 school in operations management worldwide and #12 in accounting. The school offers over 30 degree programs, include PhDs in Management Science and International Management Studies, executive education programs and dual-degree programs in finance, accounting, business and more.
Online MS in Accounting
The Jindal School of Management (JSOM) offers two options for its Master of Science (MS) in Accounting program: cohort and flex. The cohort model enrolls students in the fall semester and requires a rigid class schedule. Some students prefer this option because it creates networking opportunities, as every class features the same students. The flex option allows students to enroll in any semester, take elective courses and enjoy more flexibility. The flex program can be used as a dual-degree option so students can add a second master’s degree from a STEM field. Both programs prepare students to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination; in the previous five years, over 90% of students have passed the CPA exam. As one of five Centers for Internal Auditing Excellence in the country, the JSOM program offers specialized courses and internships for future accountants. The MS in Accounting degree can be completed completely online.
