Henderson State University operated under the name of the Arkadelphia Methodist College after its founding in 1890 and for several of the next decades. It then became Henderson-Brown College and later Henderson State Teachers College after introducing a number of teaching programs to its curriculum. After operating as Henderson State College for nearly a decade, the campus adopted the name Henderson Sate University.
