The University of Baltimore is the largest public college in the city and is a charter member of the University of Maryland School System. Robert H. Smith School of Business

The University of Maryland, College Park is the official name of the University of Maryland. It also goes by the names UM, UMCP and just Maryland. Established in 1856 as the Maryland Agricultural College, it operated for just a few years before closing down and filing for bankruptcy. It then served as a prep school before new investors took over the college, changed its curriculum and created new opportunities for students. This led to the campus becoming Maryland State College in the 1910s and then adopting its current name in the 1920s. With enrollment nearing 40,000 students, it’s the largest college in Maryland.
