When it comes to paying for a bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, university students have a ton of scholarship options. While some scholarships are sponsored by huge companies and are extremely competitive, others are more modest awards offered by small businesses and family foundations. Still others are limited to students at a particular college or from a particular county. But scholarships of any size are must-haves for students intent on graduating college with a degree, but little to no debt. The Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance sponsors a number of scholarships each year, both nationally and through its many chapters. One such national scholarship is the Undergraduate Scholarship. Award amounts vary, but are meant to help support a female student in her 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of an accounting or finance degree. Upon applying for this scholarship, applicants also become eligible for the prestigious Paula Zanni Award, which is also sponsored by the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance.

AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students

The American Institute of CPAs sponsors multiple scholarships, including the AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students. To be eligible, applicants must be a member of an under-represented community. They should also be obtaining a degree in accounting. Successful applicants will receive up to $5,000 per academic year. Winners are chosen based on:

  • an overall commitment to their future career goals.

ALPFA Scholarship Program

The Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) sponsors a prestigious $10,000 scholarship program. To be eligible, applicants must be Hispanic, or of Hispanic descent. They should also be pursuing a degree in finance or a related subject as an undergraduate or graduate student.

BMO Capital Markets Lime Connect Equity Through Education Scholarship

The Lime Network

$10,000 (U.S.) or $5,000 (Canada)
BMO Capital Markets and The Lime Network have teamed up to offer the Equity Through Education Scholarship. To apply, one must be a current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in finance or a related subject. Applicants should also have a visible or non-visible disability. The application process includes:

  • submission of a current resume
  • university transcripts
  • a letter of reference
  • an essay.

Brylak Law Safety Scholarship

Brylak Law

Brylak Law, a law firm based in Colorado and Texas, sponsors an annual Safety Scholarship. The $1,000 award is open to high school seniors and college freshman who have plans to study finance, or another business-related degree. The application process includes either a 1-2 minute video, or a 1,000-word essay explaining the ways in which lawyers make the world safer.

CPAexcel Student Scholarship

$500 + the Wiley CPAexcel Platinum CPA Review Course
Wiley CPAexcel sponsors an annual CPAexcel Student Scholarship. The winner receives $500 to put towards their education, plus the Wiley CPAexcel Platinum CPA Review Course valued at nearly $2,000. To be eligible, applicants must be taking at least one accounting course, and be majoring in either Accounting or a related subject, including Finance.

Equitable Excellence Scholarships

Equitable 

Up to $25,000

Each year, Equitable awards $1.8 million in college scholarships to students from each of the 50 states, plus Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Specific awards are valued at $2,500, $10,000, or $25,000. Applicants may be studying any subject, but must be planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college in the U.S. The application process includes a letter of recommendation. Winners are chosen based on demonstration of “drive, determination, and strong character.”  

Frederick and Demi Seguritan Scholarship

Asian Pacific Fund

The Frederick and Demi Seguritan Scholarship is sponsored by the Asian Pacific Fund. The $5,000 renewable scholarship may be used to pursue a degree in a major related to business, including finance. To be eligible for this award, one must be a first-generation Asian American living in northern California. Winners are chosen based on financial need, community service, and a displayed interest in business.

Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation

The Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation exists to financially support Hawaiian college students pursuing a degree related to business. Each scholarship recipient receives $20,000 to be split amongst the four years it will take to complete the degree. Applicants must complete an application, and take part in an interview if requested. Winners are chosen based on:

George Harding Scholarship

College juniors and seniors, along with first-year graduate students, are invited to apply for the George Harding Scholarship. This $1,000 award is sponsored by the Michigan bankers Association. To be eligible, applicants must be a Michigan resident studying finance in either Michigan or out-of-state. Winners are chosen based on two short-answer responses, and academic achievement.   

Goldberg-Miller Public Finance Scholarship

The Goldberg-Miller Public Finance Scholarship is a prestigious award sponsored by the Government Finance Officers Association. The award is open to full-time graduate students who are pursuing a career related to state or local government finance. The application process includes a questionnaire and submission of a letter of recommendation.

Harry and Joyce Wachter Business Scholarship 

Gulf Coast Community Foundation

The Harry and Joyce Wachter Business Scholarship is just one of many scholarships offered by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The $1,850 award is open to students majoring in a subject related to business administration, including Finance. To be eligible, applicants must be an undergraduate student in or from Sarasota County, Charlotte County, or Boca Granda in Florida. 

Helene M. Overly Memorial Graduate Scholarship

WTS International sponsors many annual scholarships, including the Helene M. Overly Memorial Graduate Scholarship. The award is available to female students who are pursuing a career related to transportation. They must also be pursuing a graduate degree in Finance or related.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

Zonta International sponsors the annual Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. To be eligible, applicants must be female, an undergraduate student, and studying Finance or a related subject. There are 32 $2,000 regional scholarships available, and six $8,000 international scholarships. Winners are chosen based on academic achievement and a commitment to a future in business.

John B. Lilja Undergraduate Scholarship

Lily Pabilona Emerging Entrepreneur Scholarship

Because an interest in Finance often goes hand-in-hand with entrepreneurship, the Lily Pabilona Emerging Entrepreneurship Scholarship offers a great opportunity for students studying Finance. Against the Grain Productions sponsors this scholarship which awards between $1,000 and $5,000 for use towards college tuition and fees. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens and at least 25% Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity. Winners are chosen based on academic achievement and demonstrated leadership ability.

Matt Fong Asian Americans in Public Finance Scholarship

The Asian Pacific Fund sponsors The Matt Fong Asian Americans in Public Finance Scholarship. To be eligible, applicants must be attending a California college or university as an undergraduate. To be eligible, applicants should be a member of an under-represented community. They should also be pursuing a finance degree at the graduate level. The scholarship winner will be chosen based on their displayed commitment to the public sector.

The Missouri Bankers Foundation Scholarship Program

The Missouri Bankers Association

The Missouri Bankers Associations sponsors a number of scholarships each year. The Foundation Scholarship Program consists of seven $1,000 awards. To be eligible, applicants must be Missouri-based high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in Finance or another banking-related subject. Winners are chosen based on academic achievement and their commitment to future career goals.

NABA National Scholarship Program

The National Association of Black Accountants sponsors a number of scholarships each year, including the NABA National Scholarship Program. This $1,500 award is open to Black students who are pursuing a degree in Finance or similar. They must also have a minimum 3.3 overall GPA, and a minimum 3.5 GPA in their major. New York Financial Writers’ Association Scholarships

The New York Financial Writers’ Association is the country’s oldest and most influential organization dedicated to financial journalism. Each year, they sponsor 10 $3,000 scholarships. To be eligible, applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate finance degree at a four-year university in the Tri-State New York area. Winners will be chosen based on:

Ohio GFOA Member Continuing Education Scholarship

The Ohio chapter of the Government Finance Officers Association sponsors a number of annual awards, including the Member Continuing Education Scholarship. Ohio-based undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing a degree in Finance are encouraged to apply. Two years of work experience in a government position is also required.

The Toigo MBA Program is a unique program that rewards minority students interested in finance. An applicant to the program must:

Chosen fellows are required to secure internships during two summers, and find full-time employment in financial services upon graduation.

Students entering their senior year of high school are invited to apply for the Women in Public Finance Scholarship, sponsored by the organization of the same name. Eligible applicants will be female students who intend to pursue a degree and career in finance or a related subject. Winners will be chosen based on academic achievement and an essay.
