Degree-seekers at Daytona State College have three options for studying finance and accounting with the Associate of Science in Accounting Technology, the Associate of Science Certificate in Accounting Technology, and the Associate of Science Certificate in Accounting Technology Operations – Tax Preparation. Each program has its own outcomes and mission for students who enroll.
For the Accounting Technology, A.S. Degree program, students will receive instruction on the foundations of basic accounting theory, as well as study topics like financial planning and taxation. Students who complete this program may choose to extend their studies in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management.
To complete the degree, students will earn several credits in general education in areas like English and mathematics, a well as program-specific courses. Students must receive a grade of “C” or better in all program courses. Classes students may take include Principles of Managerial Accounting, Office Accounting, Business Law, and Personal Financial Planning. Students will also take Introduction to Business, Business Math, Business Information Processing, and Personal Income Tax.
Students who choose the Accounting Technology Management Certificate will also receive instruction on the principles and practices commonly associated with the field of accounting. Students who earn this certificate may apply those credits toward the Associate of Science in Accounting Technology if they want to pursue further study.
The certificate program is designed to take two semesters, with students completing a total of 27 credits over the course of those two semesters. Some of the classes students will take in the first semester include Office Accounting, Personal Financial Planning, and Business Math. The second semester includes classes like Principles of Finance, Office Accounting, and Computerized Spreadsheets.
Students who choose the Accounting Technology Operations – Tax Preparation, A.S. Certificate will need to complete a total of 18 credits to earn their certificate over the course of two semesters. Like the certificate program in accounting technology management, credits earned for the tax preparation certificate may be used if the graduate enrolls in the associate of science program in accounting.
Classes students will take include Personal Income Tax, Personal Financial Planning, Business Math, and Office Accounting. Students should note that the Tax Preparation Certificate isn’t eligible for federal financial aid like student loans and federal grants.

Daytona State College is a public college in Daytona Beach, Florida, that has operated since 1957. The college has more than 18,000 students attending with approximately 7,600 of those students enrolled full-time and the rest attending part-time. The official colors of the college are blue and white, and the college is part of the Mid-Florida Conference for the ten sports that students play. Games are held in the National Junior Conference Athletic Association (NJCAA).
When it was established, the college was divided into three main divisions that focused on college credit, vocational studies, and adult education. The college operated for several years as a junior college and would transform into a four-year institution in 2006 when it began offering the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management. Daytona State College Application Requirements
Daytona State College admission requirements include completion of the college’s application for admission. Students can complete the application online or send it directly to the Admissions Office. Students must also send official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and high schools. The college has applications for each of its degrees, and students apply directly to the program they want to enter.
Programs often have separate application requirements. For example, students who want to enter the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management must have earned an associate degree from a regionally accredited school in an area like accounting technology, computer science, or a related area. Official transcripts must come directly from the institution where the student earned the credits. Transfer credits are only approved if the students have earned a grade of “C” or better.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time students from Florida who enroll at Daytona State College for college credit will pay $3,072 for tuition, which assumes a course load of 15 credits each semester. Out-of-state students will pay $11.960 per year. Additional costs include room and board, personal costs, transportation, and books, which elevate the overall cost to $15,572 for in-state students and $24,460 for out-of-state students.
The college has a different rate for students who choose a full-time vocational program with in-state students paying a tuition of $2,468 and out-of-state students paying $9,870. These rates also assume students enroll in 15 credits each semester. When other costs for items like books, supplies, and housing are added, the total cost of attendance for in-state students is $14,968, and the total cost for out-of-state students is $22,370. Some programs require additional fees for supplies or special classes.
