The H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship oversees undergraduate and graduate degrees for finance and accounting at Nova Southeastern University. Students can choose from a minor in finance or a Bachelor of Sscience in Business Administration Finance major. Graduate students can partake in the Master of Business Administration Finance concentration or obtain a finance certificate to augment other degrees that they may have already earned.
Relatively the same options are available for those interested in accounting. Students can obtain a minor and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Accounting. The Master of Accounting program has three concentrations. Students can choose from Public Accounting, Taxation, which prepares you for the Certified Public Accounting exam or the Certified Management Accountant certification. The latter is the only certificate offered by the university. For both majors, students can attend full- or part-time and can earn a degree online, and Nova Southeastern does not specify any differences between online and traditional programs.
About Nova Southeastern University
Established in Fort Lauderdale, FL, in 1964 as Nova University of Advanced Technology, the school merged with Southeastern University of Health Sciences in 1994 and took its present name. It was originally only a graduate school for physical and social sciences. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has classified Nova Southeastern as a high research university. It is also one of 50 institutions of higher learning to have also earned Carnegie’s Community Engagement Classification. It is one of the top five schools in the United States to award graduate degrees to minority recipients. NSU is also the largest non-profit university in the country that meets the U.S. Department of Education’s criteria for serving Hispanic populations. U.S. News and World Report names NSU as one of its top 200 colleges for 2019. The school’s main campus is located in Fort Lauderdale, but several satellite campuses are located throughout Florida.
Nova Southeastern University Accreditation Details
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has accredited NSU to award degrees on a variety of levels that include associate’s, baccalaureate, master’s, educational specialist, doctoral and professional.
For programs in the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship, the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education provides accreditation for the financing and accounting majors.
Nova Southeastern University Application Requirements
Nova Southeastern has a flexible application process for undergraduates, particularly if they and their families have been affected by natural disasters. Applicants need only to notify the university if they are unable to submit letters of recommendation or other requirements by a stated deadline. The school has a reputation for being difficult to get into as only about 52.5 percent of applicants are accepted into undergraduate programs. Most of those accepted are considered A- students with an average grade point average of 3.79. The minimal SAT requirement is a 1080 composite score while minimal ACT requirement is 22.
Admission to master’s and accounting programs in the Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship is competitive. Positions in the program are offered based on quantitive and qualitative criteria. Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree, an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.50 and a minimum score of 450 or higher on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or an equivalent score on the GRE. Students from foreign universities whose first language is not English must complete a language proficiency test.
NSU offers three types of admission to its master’s programs in finance and accounting. Full admission is provided to applicants who provide final college transcripts and official copies of GMAT or GRE scores. Conditional admission is generally granted to applicants who are in their final semester of undergraduate work and have yet to submit official transcripts for their last courses. Provisional admission is granted for a single term to applicants who submit unofficial transcripts and examinee copies of GMAT and GRE scores. If you submit your application on this basis, you must submit final documents before you will be allowed to register for subsequent terms.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition at NSU has a base of $14,970 per semester for a total of $29,940 for the academic year. Room and board range $8,470 to $11,500, depending on the meal plan chosen. Some courses may incur additional fees. The university offers a number of different scholarships based on academics, financial need and major. The NSU President’s and Premier Scholarship pays full tuition to qualified applicants. Other substantial scholarships include the NSU Dean’s Scholarship, which is based on past academic achievement and the Razor’s Edge Scholarship worth $22,000 annually that is available to students who have a passion for leadership.
The Huizinga College of Business & Entrepreneurship also has several scholarship opportunities open to undergraduate student who pursue finance and accounting majors. These include the Government Employee Tuition Award, High School Business Club Award, Michael J. Giordano Promising Leaders Scholarship, Military Tuition Award, Not-For-Profit Organizations Tuition Award, the NSU alumni Tuition Award, and the KEMET Electronics Corporation Award.
Tuition for students in the graduate finance and accounting programs at Nova Southeastern is approximately $35,960 annually, although some courses may incur additional fees. Several graduate scholarship awards are available. Florida residents may apply for the Florida Bright Future Scholarship no matter what their course of study. Scholarships specific to the Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship include the Graduate Student Business Tuition Award for first-time graduate students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and the Jacki Tuckfield Memorial Graduate Business Scholarship for African-American U.S. citizens.
Applicants for both undergraduate and graduate degree programs are also encouraged to pursue financial aid scholarships and grants from private sources. All students should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify to a variety of federal loans and grant programs.
