Dedicated to Matthew 28:19-20, Charleston Southern University originated in 1964 as the Baptist College at Charleston with teachers from The Citadel and Medical University in The Mills House Hotel. In September 1966, a 121-hectare indigo plantation underwent transformation to begin today’s 44-building North Charleston campus. By 1969, the Baptist College’s faculty grew to 60 members in 17 academic departments. During Dr. Jairy Hunter Jr’s 1980s tenure, it expanded further with the Graduate Studies Program. Charleston Southern University Accreditation Details
On June 14, 2018, Charleston Southern University submitted an interim report to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to review student achievement data like the 66.9 percent retention rate from the VP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jacqueline Fish, and continue Level V accreditation. Based 4.5 hours away in Decatur, this superb 11-state Deep South accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to ensure the academic quality of CSUNIV’s 64 baccalaureate majors, 40 undergrad minors, and 16 graduate offerings. The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) in Lenexa also reaffirmed the Accounting and Finance majors through December 2024.
Charleston Southern University Application Requirements
Getting into Charleston Southern University is considered “selective” by the U.S. News & World Report because the Fall 2017 acceptance rate was 56 percent. First-year Bucs seeking the BBA in Accounting or Financial Management need a secondary diploma or its equivalent. The South Carolina Board of Education generally requires a 24-unit curriculum that includes four years of Mathematics. Core classes should be graded at least “C” for a minimum of 2.0 GPA. Traditional freshmen submit an average composite of 1090 on the SAT or 23 on the ACT. Scores falling below 890 and 17 respectively might require the Bridge Program. Transfers are test-optional once they’ve finished two full-time college semesters with 2.0 GPAs. Foreign students should present a 71 TOEFL iBT, 6.0 IELTS, 51 Pearson, 3.7 ITEP, or higher score. Master of Business Administration entrants need evidence of a regionally accredited bachelor’s. Prerequisite courses include Foundations of Accounting and Market Economics. Admitted MBA majors typically exceed the minimum 2.5 GPA and optional GMAT mark of 410.
Charleston Southern University has rolling admission year-round until August 15th for Fall, December 15th for Spring, and April 15th for Summer. Note that non-U.S. students must apply at least one calendar month ahead of registration day though. Accelerated daytime or night courses charge $470 each credit. Possible add-ons include the $35 challenge exam fee, $115 graduation fee, $15 vehicle permit fee, $50 laboratory fee, and $10 student ID fee. Residing at the South Carolina campus’ housing like Women’s North Hall costs $9,990 yearly. Note May Term pricing drops to $515 though. Bachelor of Business Administration study equals roughly $39,940 on-campus and $30,040 with family annually. Charleston MBA cohorts pay $500 per credit, which totals $16,500. Online MBA in Accounting and Finance Emphasis students are charged $625 per credit or $20,625 overall.
